Thunderbirds to Host Bengals, Wildcats for Final 2019 Home Matches

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah soccer team will host their final home matches of the season this weekend as Idaho State comes to town on Friday October 25 and Weber State on Sunday October 27.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds were on the road in the Pacific Northwest last weekend where they lost to Eastern Washington 3-0 and Idaho 2-1 in overtime.

Amberly Hastings scored the lone goal for the Thunderbirds in the 88th minute against the Vandals. It was her first of the season and the first of her career.

Scouting Report: Idaho State Bengals (2-12-3, 1-4-2 BSC)

The Bengals are coming off of a scoreless tie with Weber State and a 2-1 win over Idaho. Their only other win on the season came on September 13 over Saint Mary's.

Makena Bambei and Michaela Didericksen lead the Bengals in goalscoring with three goals each. Bambei also has two assists on the season and leads the team in total points with eight. Katie Hogarth has played every game in goal for the Bengals, making 112 saves and holding a 2.04 goals against average.

Head coach Debs Brereton is in her first season at the helm of the program.

Scouting Report: Weber State Wildcats (2-10-3, 1-3-3 BSC)

The Wildcats have given up just one goal or fewer in each one of their Big Sky matches this season, but have only scored three goals themselves. Their only BSC win came 1-0 over Portland State.

Five different Wildcats have scored just one goal this season while two others have an assist each. Nikki Pittman has started 12 games in goal for the Wildcats, making 49 saves with a 1.72 goals against average.

The Wildcats will play at Northern Arizona on Friday before coming to Cedar City on Sunday.

Friday's match against the Bengals is set to begin at 4:00 p.m. at Thunderbird Soccer Field. The match will be streamed live on PlutoTV channel 536 and live stats will be available at tbirdstats.com.

Sunday's match will also be Senior Day for four Thunderbirds who have spent the last four years suiting up for SUU: Brianna Sims, MaKenzie Lawrence, Ellee Layton, and Meghan DeHerrera. All four will be honored with a pregame ceremony on Sunday that is set to start 10 minutes before kickoff.
