CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team will head to California this weekend for a three-game series with the University of San Diego.
Last Time Out
The Thunderbirds opened the season two weeks ago in Las Vegas at the UNLV Marucci Desert Classic.
Overall, the Thunderbirds went 1-4 in the tournament with their only win coming over North Dakota. Rylie Nance hit .364 (4-for-11) in five games and Makall Whetten hit .357 (5-for-14) in her first collegiate games. Emilee Reeder and Kendall Kapitzke had four RBIs each and as a team, the Thunderbirds were 5-for-5 in stealing bases.
Scouting Report: University of San Diego Toreros (2-9)
The Toreros have played in two tournaments so far this season, picking up two wins over Portland State and UC Riverside.
Junior catcher Madison Casiano leads USD offensively, hitting .400 in 30 plate appearances. She also has eight RBIs, six doubles, and is slugging .600. Casiano earned All-WCC honorable mention honors last season after starting 40 games and hitting .235.
The Toreros finished the 2018 season 25-27 and fourth in the West Coast Conference.

Saturday's doubleheader is set to begin at 1:00 p.m. Mountain time (12:00 p.m. Pacific) at USD Softball Complex. The final game of the series will be played Sunday and it will also start at 1:00 p.m. Mountain time.
