CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Kasey Knevelbaard will be representing the Southern Utah University men's track and field team as he competes at the NCAA Indoor National Championships held in Birmingham, Alabama on March 8.

The redshirt junior athlete will be competing in the mile at the National Championships as he currently holds the school record in the event with a time of 3:55.96.

During the 2019 indoor season, Knevelbaard competed in several meets for the Thunderbirds including the UW Invitational where he finished the mile second with a nationally ranked time of 3:58.54.

At the Big Sky Indoor Conference Championships, Knevelbaard placed second in the mile with a time of 4:12.03.

Knevelbaard last competed at the NCAA National Indoor Championships in 2018 where he claimed All-American status with a fifth place finish in the mile. He finished the race with a time of 4:00.57.

"When you go to an NCAA Championship, you are marked as the best of the best," commented head coach Eric Houle. "To have athletes at this school competing on that level really speaks to the volume of the program we have."

"Kasey has been a team player as he has been here at SUU, and he has stayed consistent," added Houle. "If he can maintain this consistency throughout nationals, he has a really good shot of claiming All-American status."

Knevelbaard will be competing at the NCAA Championships from Friday, March 8 through Saturday, March 9.
