ST. GEORGE, Utah -- Play concluded on Friday afternoon at the 2019 Pizza Hut Lady Thunderbird Invitational, with the Thunderbird women's golf team finishing second in the field.

SUU was led by Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan, who finished in second place on the leaderboard by shooting a 143 (71, 72). After some slight struggles in her last tournament, Yongyuan got back to her phenomenal play as a freshman at Sunbrook Golf Club.   

Junior Kyla Smith was second for SUU in the field, carding a two-round 147 (72, 75) to finish in a tie for seventh on the leaderboard.

In third for the T-Birds was fellow junior Kamonwan (Poy) Prasurtwong, who shot a 77 on Thursday and a 75 on Friday to end play in a tie for 16th at 152.

Launa Wilson finished in fourth for SUU and in a tie for 33rd on the leaderboard, carding a 156 (77, 79). Tori Thomas shot a two-day 160 (78, 82) for SUU to finish tied for 49th.

As a team, Southern Utah shot a 598 (297, 301) to finish second at their home event. Only California Baptist was in front of the T-Birds, as they shot a 589 (292, 297).

"Overall this was a pretty good finish for us," SUU head coach Richard Church said. "We were happy with the way Pluem bounced back to finish in second, and it's always nice to play so close to home for the team."

Lindsay Aleman (160) and Lexi Hamel (164) played as individuals for the T-Birds in St. George.

North Dakota State's Taylor McCorkle was the individual victor, shooting a 141 (76, 65).  

SUU will be back in action on March 23 at the 2019 Red Rocks Invitational.
