Softball to Host UMKC for First Games of 2019 at Kathryn Berg Field

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team will be hosting their first true home games of the season this Wednesday March 27 against the UMKC Kangaroos.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds opened Big Sky play last weekend with a three-game series against the Sacramento State Hornets. After dropping both games of a doubleheader on Friday, they were able to win the series finale 4-2.

Senior Hanna Wynn earned the win in the circle for the Thunderbirds, pitching all seven innings and giving up just nine hits and two runs while striking out three Hornets. Dream Weaver went 2-for-4 in the win, scoring a run in the third inning. Hannah Williams was 1-for-2 with a RBI double.

Weaver extended her hitting streak to 10 games with at least one hit in each of the three games. She had four hits total in the series and raised her batting average to .368.

Scouting Report: UMKC Kangaroos (18-12, 1-2 WAC)

The Kangaroos are also coming off of their first conference series of the season, winning one of three games against Seattle University. The 'Roos had a really good non-conference season building a record of 17-10 before starting WAC play last week.

Outfielder Sydney Garcia leads UMKC offensively hitting .410 in 100 at-bats. She also has nine doubles, four home runs, and 19 RBIs. Freshman Kailyn Packard has the lowest ERA on the 'Roos pitching staff with a 2.10 in 21 appearances. She has a 5-4 with two shutouts and four saves on the season.
