Thunderbirds to Host Bears for Big Sky Series in St. George

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team will host their first Big Sky series this weekend against Northern Colorado from April 12-13. The games will be played in St. George at Dixie State's softball facility due to weather conditions in Cedar City.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds were swept by Weber State last weekend in a three-game series in Ogden. They held leads in all three games, but couldn't keep the Wildcats at bay and secure a victory.

Makall Whetten had two hits in each game, going 6-for-9 on the weekend. She also had two RBIs and scored a run. Kendall Kapitzke had one hit in each game including a three-run home run in game two and a grand slam in game three. The two blasts gave her seven RBIs and two runs scored on the weekend.

Dream Weaver had five hits on the weekend with at least one in each game, extending her hitting streak to 16 games. The freshman has the second highest batting average in the Big Sky with a .402 on the season.

Scouting Report: Northern Colorado Bears (10-28, 4-4 BSC)

The Bears will come into Cedar City riding a four-game winning streak after a sweep of Idaho State last weekend and a 7-5 victory over Metro State on Tuesday.

Emma Brockmann leads the Bears offensively with a .278 batting average and a .333 on-base percentage. She leads the team with seven doubles and 40 total bases. Valerie Vidal has pitched 156 innings in the circle this season so far for UNC. She currently holds a 5.43 ERA and has 90 strikeouts.

Head coach Ben Garcia is in his first season after taking over the program in September of 2018.
