CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team will play their final road Big Sky series this weekend April 19-20 against Portland State.
Last Time Out
Last weekend the Thunderbirds won their first Big Sky series of the season, taking two out of three games against Northern Colorado.
The Thunderbirds had a huge offensive weekend, combining for 40 hits (eight doubles and three home runs) and 24 runs. They had season-highs of 16 runs, 20 hits, 15 RBIs, and 30 total bases in their 16-11 win in the series finale.
Kendall Kapitzke went 7-for-12 on the weekend, hitting her second grand slam in as many weekends and picking up eight RBIs. Madison Carr and Dream Weaver both went 6-for-12 and combined for six runs and five RBIs. Weaver extended her current hitting streak to 19 games and currently leads the Big Sky in batting average with a .414.
The T-Birds now sit in sixth place in the Big Sky with a 3-6 conference record.
Scouting Report: Portland State Vikings (13-24, 2-6 BSC)
The Vikings come into the weekend as the bottom team in the conference after being swept by Montana last weekend in Missoula.
As a team they are hitting .291 and pitching to a tune of a 4.46 ERA. They are also the best fielding team in the Big Sky, having committed just 36 errors this season. Junior Darian Lindsey leads the team offensively with a .392 batting average, third best in the Big Sky. She also leads the team in doubles, home runs, and RBIs.
The Thunderbirds took two out of three games from the the Vikings last season and have won four of their last six against PSU.
