Thunderbirds Set to Host Grizzlies for Final Regular Season Series

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah softball team will host their final Big Sky series this weekend at Kathryn Berg Field as the Montana Grizzlies come to town. The games will take place on Saturday May 4 and Sunday May 5.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds won one game in a three-game series with Idaho State last weekend, taking game two of a doubleheader 12-4 in five innings. Seven different T-Birds had hits and eight of them came around to score at least once in the win.

Madison Carr had six hits in the series, including a 3-for-4 line in game one. She also scored twice and had two RBIs in the series. Makall Whetten had five hits with four RBIs and three runs scored.

Big Sky Championship Tournament Odds

With just one weekend left in the regular season, the Thunderbirds sit at the bottom of the Big Sky standings, but still have a chance to be the last team into the Big Sky Championship Tournament next week in Sacramento, California.

Northern Colorado currently sits one game in front of the Thunderbirds and would be the sixth seed in the tournament if it started today. However, the Bears are done with their regular season and will not play this weekend. With two wins against Montana, the Thunderbirds would be able to surpass the Bears and take that final spot in the tournament.

Scouting Report: Montana Grizzlies (21-29, 7-8 BSC)

The Grizzlies are coming off of a weekend sweep of Northern Colorado and have won their last five games in a row. They clinched a spot in the Big Sky Championship Tournament last weekend with a 7-8 conference record.

Cami Sellers leads the Griz offensively with a .361 batting average and a .627 slugging percentage. She leads the Big Sky in hits with 60 and doubles with 21. Colleen Driscoll has the lowest ERA on the team with a 3.66.

Head coach Melanie Meuchel is in her second season leading the Grizzlies.

Game Info

Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 1:00 p.m. with the second game set to follow about 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first. Sunday's series finale will begin at noon with Senior Day festivities set to start after the conclusion of the game.

All games will be streamed live on PlutoTV channel 236 and live stats will be available at tbirdstats.com.
