CLE ELUM, Wash. -- Thunderbird freshman Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan started play at NCAA Regionals on Monday morning, and sits in a tie for 15th at the Tumble Creek Club after 18 holes of competition.
Yongyuan didn't start the day like she would have preferred, carding a bogey on the first two holes.
However things got better for the freshman, as she had three birdies before the first nine holes were complete and made the turn one-under.
Over her final nine holes she had a birdie and a bogey to end the day shooting a one-under 71.
After one round Yongyuan is the top player in the field not on a team and competing as an individual.
Two rounds of competition remain at Tumble Creek Club, with 18 holes to be play on Tuesday and Wednesday.
