LAS VEGAS, Nev. - The Southern Utah soccer team opened their 2019 regular season Saturday night with a 4-0 loss to the CSUN Matadors.
"One game down and a bunch more to go. Obviously not the result we were looking for tonight, but we learned a lot," head coach Fred Thompson said. "We'll continue to grow with each game we play as we prepare for Big Sky play."
The Thunderbirds were able to keep the Matadors from scoring in the first half. Goalkeeper Brianna Aldridge made three saves in the shutout half.
Things quickly turned CSUN's way in the second half as they went up 2-0 in the first five minutes of play. They would score two more times throughout the half to make it 4-0. The Thunderbirds took zero shots in the second half and only took three the whole game.
The Thunderbirds will continue their season next Friday in Provo against BYU.
