FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. - The Southern Utah soccer team opened Big Sky Conference play Sunday afternoon with a 3-2 loss to Northern Arizona in Flagstaff.
MaKenzie Lawrence and Madison DeHerrera were the goalscorers for the Thunderbirds with Lawrence scoring in the 35th minute and DeHerrera scoring in the 78th minute.
Lawrence's goal was her second of the season and 14th of her career, which moved her into fourth all-time at Southern Utah. DeHerrera scored her first goal of the season and of her career on a free kick awarded after a NAU foul.
The Lumberjacks got the scoring started early with a goal from Paige Maling in just the fourth minute of play. They would score again before the end of the first half and then once more in the 62nd minute of play.
The Thunderbirds now fall to 0-9 on the season and will be back on the road for matches against Sacramento State and Portland State next weekend.
