CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Thunderbird soccer team is headed to the state of Texas for a pair of matches, starting with UTRGV on Friday evening in Edinburg, Texas, with a second contest against UTEP in Sunday at noon in El Paso.
Last Time Out
Despite a fairly solid defensive effort last Sunday, the Thunderbirds fell to the California Baptist Lancers 1-0.Â
The T-Birds have started their season 0-3 and are hoping to pick up their first victory of the season on the road this weekend.Â
Southern Utah has had 12 shots on goal this season, but has yet to put one in the back of the net.Â
Scouting Report: UTRGV Vaqueros (2-1-1)
After starting their season with a 4-0 loss to the Miami Hurricanes, UTRGV bounced back quickly in their next match with a 6-0 victory over Alabama State.Â
They also knocked off Texas A&M Corpus Christi 1-0 before drawing with UTEP.Â
The Vaqueros have two players with multiple goals this season, as Sarah Bonney as put two in the back of the net and Emily Zapta has scored twice.Â
Glad Bugariu has been the head coach at UTRGV since April of 2013.Â
Scouting Report: UTEP Miners (1-1-2)
The UTEP Miners claimed their first victory of the season against Grand Canyon University 2-1. They tied with both Wyoming and UTRGV and fell to Abeline Christian.Â
Danielle Carreon is the leading scorer for the Miners with five total points this season, accounting for two goals and an assist.Â
Kathrynn Balogun is in her first season as head coach of UTEP.Â
