Lady T-Birds Put Home Undefeated Streak On the Line Against Eagles and Vandals

CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah women's basketball team returns home this weekend to host Eastern Washington on Saturday January 25 and Idaho on Monday January 27.

Last Time Out

Last week the Thunderbirds dropped matchups with both Northern Arizona and Sacramento State.

Against the Lumberjacks, Rebecca Cardenas led all scorers in the game with 26 points, which brought her to 1,004 career points, making her the 14th member of the Southern Utah women's basketball 1,000-point club. Harley Hansen was the second leading scorer for the T-Birds with 16 points and Jessica Chatman also broke into double-digits with 10 points.

Cardenas picked up her first double-double of the season against the Hornets with 19 points and a career-high 12 assists. Harley Hansen led all scorers with a season-high 25 points. Shalyn Fano also broke double-digits with 12 points and Ashley Larsen led the Thunderbirds in rebounding with nine.

Scouting Report: Eastern Washington Eagles (2-13, 1-5 BSC)

The Eagles come into the weekend riding a five-game losing streak after opening Big Sky play with a win over Weber State in December. In their most recent game, they took league leading Montana State to double-overtime where they eventually lost 85-89.

Sophomore Grace Kirscher leads the Eagles in scoring, averaging 10.5 points per game. Fellow sophomore Bella Cravens is the team's leading rebounder at 7.9 per game.

The teams split their series last season with each team winning on their home court. The Eagles have won four of the last five matchups.

Scouting Report: Idaho Vandals (10-5, 5-1 BSC)

The reigning regular season champion Vandals are currently on a three-game winning streak and have just one loss in Big Sky play so far, 74-53 to Portland State.

Gina Marxen leads the Vandals in scoring with an average of 13.5 points per game, while Lizzy Klinker leads the team in rebounding, averaging 7.2 per game. Idaho is the top defensive team in the Big Sky, allowing just 58.9 points per game.

The Thunderbirds are still looking for their first win over the Vandals since Idaho joined the Big Sky in 2014-15.
