LAST TIME AGAINST THE LUMBERJACKS:

The Thunderbirds last faced off against Lumberjacks in a two-game home series in March of last season. In the first matchup, both teams started strong, creating multiple chances for their offensive attacks. Northern Arizona got on the board first when Madison Montgomery found the back of the net in the 26th-minute sending the Lumberjacks into the half with the early lead. The Thunderbirds answered back right out of the half in the 47th-minute when Kamryn Farro pummeled a penalty kick past NAU's goalkeeper. Both teams began to trade chances back and forth. The Lumberjacks broke through in the 63rd minute, only to have it answered immediately in the 70th minute by Rachael Hunt. It looked like neither team would budge until Madison Montgomery buried a penalty kick in the 82nd minute securing the victory for NAU and giving them the momentum they needed for the following game on Sunday, where they escaped with a 3-0 win.

NOTES AND QUOTES:

Last Time On The Pitch: The Thunderbirds last took the pitch on Sunday, October 10th, at Thunderbird soccer field against the Weber State Wildcats. The T-Birds came out of the gate hard and immediately started to create chances. As a team, they fired eight first-half shots while limiting Weber to just one shot, sending them into the half on the front foot. The Weber State attack showed life in the second half as they started to control the possession and make deep runs inside the Thunderbirds box. They broke through in the 57th minute when Midfielder Taylor Slack sent a low shot into the bottom right corner of the net. Finding themselves down, the Thunderbirds scrambled to get back into the game. They nearly found the equalizer in the 85th-minute when Defender Emma Leong fired a long shot from outside the box towards the top left corner of the net that the Weber State goalkeeper batted out of bounds. The T-Birds continued to fight, but in the end, it wasn't enough.

Edwards on his team's outing against Weber State: "We created lots of chances and outshot our opponent for the fourth game in a row. Weber is a very good team, but we played very well. We had our chances, but conference play comes down to set-pieces and attention to detail. We lost focus and that was the difference in the game."

Edwards on his team's performance against Idaho State: "We had chances to finish and we didn't. We created tons of quality chances and came back late, but the attention to detail was sloppy. Right now it's about us winning individual moments. There's no one in this conference we can't play with. If we play well we can beat every single team in this conference."

  • The Thunderbirds have recorded 46 shots in their last three matchups.

  • Forward Ashley Rivera is third in the Big Sky in shots on goal with 18.

  • Rachael Hunt and Kamryn Farro combined for seven shots in their last matchup against Weber State.
