CEDAR CITY, Utah- Southern Utah lost to the Montana Grizzlies on Thursday, losing the matchup three sets to none.
The Thunderbirds kept the contest close in the first set until the first media timeout where they were still down 15-10. Montana took control from there, finishing on a 10-6 run to claim the first set. Paige Clark delivered the final kill for Montana with an assist from Carly Anderson.
SUU started the second set strong running a 4-1 lead early with three kills from Stacey Hone. Montana used three runs of three or more points, including a six point run to run the score to 18-14, to take control of the second set. SUU cut the deficit, but wound up losing the set 25-21.
The Thunderbirds continued to struggle in the third set, but saw their luck run out when the score hit 14-11. The Griz finished the set on an 11-5 run to seal the deal in three sets.
Hone led the Thunderbirds with eight kills on a .333 hitting percentage. Raegen Ashby and Ronnie Robinson added five kills of their own for SUU. Ashby also recorded six blocks with SUU totaling nine on the night.Â
Southern Utah returns to action on Saturday when Montana State comes to town for a 12 p.m. matchup.Â
