PORTLAND, Ore. - The Southern Utah men's and women's cross country teams competed at the 2021 Big Sky Conference Cross Country Championships Friday afternoon where the men's team finished in second place and the women's team finished in fifth place.
The men's team took second place with 53 points, behind the reigning national champions Northern Arizona who scored just 30 points. Christian Ricketts was the top finisher for the Thunderbirds, coming in fifth place with a time of 23:23.4. Nate Osterstock finished in seventh place with a time of 23:41.4 and Kevin Ramos finished in ninth place with a time of 23:53.3.
Ricketts, Osterstock, and Ramos all earned Big Sky All-Conference honors with their Top-10 finishes. It is the third Cross Country All-Conference honor for Osterstock, second for Ricketts, and first for Ramos.
Isaiah Labra just missed out on All-Conference honors, finishing in 11th place with a time of 24:03.6. Travis Feeny rounded out the scoring for the T-Birds with a 21st place finish in a time of 24:27.3.
Jacob Francis finished in 32nd place with a time of 24:50.4 and Max Spence finished in 37th place with a time of 25:00.4.
The women's team finished in fifth place with 120 points, coming in behind Idaho and Portland State. Alison Pray was the top finisher for the T-Birds, coming in fifth place with a time of 16:38.6. The senior earned her fourth Cross Country All-Conference honor with her Top-10 finish.
Madisan DeBos finished in 17th place with a time of 17:09.6, Raquel Suarez finished in 27th place with a time of 17:30.0, and Haley Tanne finished in 35th place with a time of 17:40.5. Aviry Stratton rounded out the scoring for Southern Utah with a 41st place finish and a time of 17:50.3.
Gentry Pierce finished in 47th place with a time of 18:14.4 and Sariah Hernandez finished in 48th place with a time of 18:15.3.
Northern Arizona won both titles, their third-straight on the women's side and their fifth in the last six attempts for the men.
Both teams will now await the results from around the region to see who will be competing at the NCAA Mountain Regional Championship in Provo, Utah on November 12.
