Southern Utah took the loss against the Idaho Vandals on Thursday three sets to none. There were only three lead changes throughout the matchup as SUU failed to win a set.
The Thunderbirds battled in the first set led by Raegan Asby who recorded five kills in the set. SUU took a 7-1 run to run the score to 8-5 for SUU's first lead of the night. They stayed in control until the score read 20-13, when Idaho made their own run that saw the set finish with a 12-3 Vandal run to give Idaho the first set 25-23.
Idaho took early control of the second set, getting out to a quick 7-1 lead before SUU battled back to come within one point of tying the set. The Thunderbirds kept it close, but the Vandals managed to take the set 25-19. Idaho had four players record three or more kills in the set, led by Rachel Davis with 4.
The third set was controlled by the Vandals from the start as they took the first five points of the set. Idaho stretched their lead to 11-3. SUU managed to crawl back into the contest, cutting the lead to five at 11-16, but it wasn't enough to win the set as the Vandals finished the sweep of the T-Birds with a 25-16 third set.
Nicole Ball finished the matchup as the Vandals' top scorer with 11 kills and five blocks. Allison Munday added nine kills and Delaney Nicoll added eight for Idaho's big night.
Ashby added two kills outside of her first set to lead SUU with seven on the night. Stacey Hone had six kills of her own with Rylee Achtzehn recording five.
The Thunderbirds travel to Cheney, Washington for a clash with the Eastern Washington Eagles on Saturday. The matchup starts at 1:00 p.m. MST and is available to watch on ESPN+. Live stats will be available on suutbirds.com
