Thunderbirds Downed By Eastern Washington In Cheney

CHENEY, Wash. - The Southern Utah volleyball team traveled to Cheney, Washington Saturday afternoon to take on Eastern Washington, falling to the Eagles in straight sets 0-3 (24-26, 24-26, 11-25).

The Thunderbirds fell to 6-18 overall and 2-10 in Big Sky play while the Eagles improved to 10-10 and 6-6 in conference play.

Stacey Hone led all attackers in the match with 10 kills. The senior also had two blocks and put together 11 points on the afternoon. Carissa Richie had five blocks to lead all blockers and Andreanna McKee had 10 digs to lead the defense.

The Thunderbirds out-blocked the Eagles 8-6, but had a .090 hitting percentage on the offensive side of the ball.

Southern Utah held sizeable leads in both of the tightly contested opening sets, but Eastern Washington was able to creep back in in both. Both sets took extra points to finish, but the Eagles came out on top in both.

Set three was all Eagles as they hit .500 and held the Thunderbirds to just 11 points to cruise to the 3-0 victory.

The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Thursday November 4 against Northern Arizona in Flagstaff.
