CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah women's basketball team has announced its 2021 recruiting class that will join the Thunderbirds in Fall of 2022. Ashley Banks from Boise, Idaho, Emmy Clarke from Canberra, Australia, and Lexi Jensen from Riverton, Utah form the trio that gives Head Coach Tracy Sanders optimism about SUU's future.
"We are so excited about the addition of Emmy, Lexi, and Ashley," said Sanders. "This is a great class that will have a direct impact on our success over the next four years. They all complement each other on the court so well. Lexi is a true point guard that can completely control the pace of the game, Emmy is a pure competitor that can both defend and score, and Ashley is a very mobile post player with a high basketball IQ. We're looking forward to these three joining our T-Bird family."
Ashley Banks
Banks is a 6'5" center coming from Boise High School who has averaged 13 points and eight rebounds per game in her three-year career. In her junior season, she averaged 1.9 blocks and 10.3 points per game on her way to an All-Conference Second Team honor for the Southern Idaho Conference.
Emmy Clarke
The 5'9" guard hails from UC Senior Secondary College Lake Ginninderra in Australia. Clarke brings with her an already extensive playing resume. In 2018, Clarke was selected to the National Intensive Training program to hone her craft. In 2019, Clarke was part of the women's league youth team that won a championship in its debut season. She was selected to represent the Australian Capital at the U18 Australian Junior Championship in 2019 and 2020.
Lexi Jensen
Jensen represents the Thunderbirds' only recruit from Utah as she comes from Riverton High School and the Salt Lake Metro club team. As a 5'6" guard, Jensen has captained the Riverton team in her three years at the school. Jensen has created a legacy for herself already in high school with First Team All-State, All-Tournament, and All-Region honors. In her junior season, she averaged 14 points per game while shooting 45 percent from three-point range. She is 280 points away from recording 1,000 points for her career.
