PALM DESERT, Calif. -- Competition came to a close at Wyoming's Mountain Classic Match Play event on Tuesday afternoon, as the Thunderbird women's golf team finished in third place overall after falling to the Boise State Broncos 4.5-1.5 in their final match. The event was held at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.
Tori Thomas earned the full point for the Thunderbirds against BSU, with a 7&5 victory over Taylor Koch.
Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan halved her match with Emma Yang from Boise State to earn half a point.
The Broncos were able to get a full point in each of the other individual matches.
BSU's victory propelled them to a team victory with 11 total points. Wyoming defeated Utah Valley 3.5-2.5 in the other match to finish in second overall with 9.5 points. SUU finished in third with 8.0 points and Utah Valley took fourth with 7.5 points.
Both Yongyuan and Thomas scored 2.5 points for the Thunderbirds.
The Thunderbird women's golf team will next be in action on March 1 at the GCU Invitational. The tournament will be played at the Grand Canyon University Golf Course in Glendale, Arizona.
