PALM DESERT, Calif. -- The Thunderbird men's golf team wrapped up competition at the 2021 Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Sunday afternoon, finishing in 16th place as a team. The event spanned the previous three days at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, California.
Seniors Jake Vincent and Ali Hameed tied as the top finishers for the Thunderbirds, both shooting a 221. Vincent (74, 73, 74) and Hameed (76, 74, 71) finished in a tie for 45th at the event.
Tyler Jones finished third for SUU and tied for 65th on the overall leaderboard, shooting a 225 (72, 78, 75). Freshman Atthasit (Anfield) Srichun shot a 233 (77, 78, 78) to finish tied for 92nd while Jaxon Long rounded out the scoring lineup for SUU with a 239 (85, 77, 77).
As a team the T-Birds had their best round of the event on Sunday, shooting a 297. That brought their three-day total to 898 (299, 302, 297).
Ryker Smith played as an individual for SUU, shooting a 238 (84, 79, 75).
Georgia Tech claimed the team title by shooting a 848 (276, 295, 277) and Colorado State's A J Ott was the top player in the field, shooting a 205 (69, 68, 68).
Next up for the Thunderbirds will be the 2021 Jackrabbit Invitational at Boulder Creek Golf Club, which is scheduled to begin on March 5.
