CEDAR CITY, Utah - Coming off of a win over Northern Colorado, the Southern Utah women's basketball team will now head south to Tempe, Arizona for a last-minute matchup with Arizona State on Monday February 8.
Last Time Out
Last Thursday, the Thunderbirds returned to the court after pausing activities the previous week and handed Northern Colorado a 70-63 loss.
Cherita Daugherty was the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds with 19 points on 88.9 percent shooting (8-for-9 FG). Darri Frandsen had another double-double scoring 12 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Margarita Satini had a career-high 13 points on 83.3 percent shooting (5-for-6 FG).
As a team, the Thunderbirds shot 44.4 percent from the floor, outrebounded the Bears 41-36, and outscored Northern Colorado in the paint 44-26.
Southern Utah continues to lead the Big Sky in scoring as a team, averaging 73.3 points per game. They also are tops in the conference in free throw shooting (.802) and rebounding with a +9.4 rebounding margin.
Scouting Report: Arizona State Sun Devils (8-6, 4-6 PAC-12)
The Sun Devils had their scheduled PAC-12 games against Oregon and Oregon State postponed last weekend and currently in the midst of a three-game losing streak dating back to January 24.
Junior Taya Hanson leads the Sun Devils in scoring, averaging 12.5 points per game. Hanson, a native of Canada, was named Canada Basketball's Player of the Week during the final week of 2020 after tying a program record with seven three-pointers against the University of California.
Head coach Charli Turner Thorne is in her 24th season at the helm of the program and is the winningest coach in ASU history.
