CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah soccer team will play their first Big Sky matches of the season this weekend as they host Northern Arizona for matches on Friday March 19 and Sunday March 21.

Last Time Out

The Thunderbirds were originally scheduled to open Big Sky play last weekend on the road against Northern Colorado, but the series was canceled due to a large snowstorm in the area.

They instead traveled to Phoenix, Arizona to play a match against Benedictine University at Mesa. The Thunderbirds shut out the Redhawks 6-0 for their first win of the season. Sophomore Kate Schirmer scored three goals and picked up one assist in the match. Allyson Carlisle, Kamryn Farro, and Rachael Hunt all scored one goal while Hunt and Farro both picked up assists as well.

Junior goalkeeper Jennifer Kovisto earned her first shutout of the season, keeping the Redhawks scoreless through 90 minutes.

Scouting Report: Northern Arizona Lumberjacks (2-1-0, 1-0-0 BSC)

The Lumberjacks opened conference play last weekend with a game against Weber State that they won 1-0. They were supposed to play two games, but the first was canceled due to weather conditions.

Junior Madison Montgomery scored the lone goal in the win over the Wildcats and Taryn Benham recorded her second shutout of the season.

Montgomery is one of three Lumberjacks to have scored a goal this season as Paige Maling and Abby Donathan both scored in a 2-0 win over Grand Canyon.

Head coach Kylie Louw is in her second season at the helm of the program.

Match Day Information

Friday's match against the Lumberjacks is set to kick off at 12:00 p.m. at Thunderbird Soccer Field. Sunday's match will also begin at 12:00 p.m.

Both matches will be streamed live on PlutoTV channel 1055 and live scoring will be available at tbirdstats.com.
