CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah volleyball team locked in a non-losing Big Sky conference play record for the first time in program history with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-20, 25-20) sweep of Eastern Washington.
With one game left in the regular season, the Thunderbirds could finish 7-7 or 8-6 in conference play, depending on the result of tomorrow's match against the Eagles.
Southern Utah hit .327 as a team, with 44 total kills and seven total blocks.
Andreanna McKee led the Thunderbirds offensively with 16 kills. Stacey Hone had 10 kills, hit .409 in the match, and had four total blocks. Corrin Peterson had 40 assists and Mckenzie Dowell also had four total blocks.
Elisa Lago had 14 digs and Sarah Gasper had 13 digs.
In the first set, Eastern Washington found themselves up 21-17 before the Thunderbirds closed out the set on a seven-point scoring run. Peterson had two service aces during the run while the T-Birds forced the Eagles into five errors.
The second set also saw the T-Birds close out the Eagles on a big scoring run. They were down 19-18 before launching into a 7-1 scoring run that saw McKee put up four kills and a service ace.
The Thunderbirds opened the third set on a 3-0 run and never relinquished their lead, closing out the match with a 25-20 score in the final set.
The Thunderbirds and the Eagles will square off again tomorrow night in the 2020-21 regular season finale.
