CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah volleyball team won their fifth straight home match Saturday night with a 3-2 (25-20, 16-25, 18-25, 25-17, 15-8) win over Idaho State.
The Thunderbirds move to 5-7 on the season and 5-6 in Big Sky play.
Stacey Hone and Andreanna McKee both led the way on the offensive side of the ball with 14 kills each. Hone hit .414 in the match with just two attack errors in 29 attempts. Corrin Peterson had 33 assists and eight digs. Sarah Gasper had 11 digs and Bridget Triplett had four total blocks.
The first set was the closest between the two teams. The Thunderbirds used a 9-1 scoring run just before the halfway mark to put distance between themselves and the Bengals and roll on to a 25-20 set win.
The Bengals would win the next two sets by a decent margin taking set number two 25-16 and set number three 25-18 to go up two sets to one.
The Thunderbirds went on another big scoring run in the fourth set. With the score at 8-6 in favor of the Bengals, they scored 11 of the next 14 points to go up 17-11. They then cruised to a 25-17 win to tie the match at two sets apiece.
Southern Utah dominated the fifth and final set, closing out the match on a 7-1 run.
The two teams will face off again tomorrow at 6:00 p.m. inside the America First Event Center.
