Box Score PROVO, Utah. The Southern Utah softball team made a midweek stop in Provo, Utah en route to Montana for Big Sky Conference play this weekend. During the stopover, SUU took an 8-0 loss against BYU.
After a scoreless first inning, BYU opened scoring with a two-out rally in the bottom of the second to lead 4-0. BYU added to its lead in the bottom of the third with four more runs to take an 8-0 advantage.
SUU had its chances throughout the game. Dayna Hokanson led off the contest with a hit-by-pitch in the first inning. Gianna Carosone singled up the middle in the second inning for SUU's lone hit of the game. She then stole second base to advance to scoring position.
Payton Goodrich took the loss, dropping to 2-7 on the season. Goodrich struck out three and induced a trio of flyouts and a groundout. Capri Franzen pitched 1.2 innings of scoreless relief for the T-Birds.
Next up, the Thunderbirds return to Big Sky Conference action with a three-game series against Montana in Missoula April 17-18.
