BOULDER CITY, Nev. - Southern Utah senior Jake Vincent finished runner-up at the Big Sky Men's Golf Championship Tuesday afternoon after a hole-by-hole battle for the Individual Championship with Sacramento State's Ethan Davidson as they came down the stretch.
The two players found themselves tied for the top spot with six holes to play, but Davidson would go on to pick up three birdies on the remaining holes while Vincent only picked up one. Davidson took a one-stroke lead over Vincent on hole 16 and was able to hold on as Vincent barely missed birdie putts on the final two holes.
The two-time Big Sky Player of the Year shot a one-under 71 in the final round to finish with a three-round total of 215 (76, 68, 71). Vincent and Davidson were the only two players to finish the tournament under par.
As a team, the Thunderbirds improved on their previous round once again, shooting a three-under 285 in round three. They finished in second place at the championship with a three-day total of 883 (304, 294, 285).
Tyler Jones rocketed up the leaderboard again on Tuesday, shooting a four-under 68 in round three to finish in a tie for 13th place with a total of 223 (85, 70, 68). He finished tied with teammate Atthasit (Anfield) Srichun who shot a 72 on day three to also finish with a 223 (75, 76, 72).
Ryker Smith shot a 77 in round three to finish in a tie for 21st place with a 231 (74, 80, 77). Ali Hameed shot a round-three 74 to finish in tie for 27th place with a 233 (79, 80, 74).
Sacramento State claimed the team championship with an even-par 864 (299, 285, 280).
