MARICOPA, Ariz. - Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan paced the Southern Utah women's golf team with a third-place tie on the individual leaderboard at the Wyoming Cowgirl Classic in Maricopa, Ariz.
Yongyuan golfed consistently throughout all three rounds, putting together a two-under 214 (71, 73, 70) during the two-day event. Â Yongyuan accounted for eight birdies during all three rounds. Â Her third round included stellar back-to-back 35s.Â
As a team, the Thunderbirds placed 16th overall with a 930 (311, 302, 317).Â
New Mexico State captured the event title with an 869 (285, 294, 290), while CSU Fullerton's Brittany Shin grasped the individual trophy with a 211 (67, 71, 73).Â
Tanyatorn (Excel) Thalangkarn tied for 47th with a 230 (75, 75, 80). Â Thalangkarn had a strong first day with a pair of 75s that included six birdies. Â Today, she turned in another birdy for seven during the tournament.
Tori Thomas finished just behind Thalangkarn with a 53rd-place-tying 231 (80, 74, 77). Thomas tallied seven birdies during the two days.Â
Launa Wilson closed out scoring for the T-Birds with a 111th-place 255 (85, 80, 90). Wilson turned in a pair of birdies during the three rounds of play.Â
Next up, the Thunderbirds head to the Fresno State Classic at the Copper River Country Club in Fresno, Calif., April 12-13.
