CEDAR CITY, Utah - Ten Thunderbirds from the Southern Utah track and field teams will be competing at the 2021 NCAA Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships West Preliminary this week from May 26-29 in Bryan-College Station, Texas.
On the women's side, Alison Pray and Alexis McAllister will both be competing, with Pray qualifying in the 1,500m and the 5,000m and McAllister qualifying in the javelin throw.
Pray has the 19th fastest time in the 1,500m, having run an altitude-adjusted 4:16.64 at the Big Sky Championship, and the 26th fastest time in the 5,000m, running a 15:59.63 at the Oregon State High Performance Meet. McAllister owns the 14th best javelin throw in the West Region with her program record shattering 170' 2" in the UNLV Spring Opener.
Eight Thunderbirds qualified on the men's side with Nate Osterstock, Max Spence, Travis Feeny, Aidan Reed, Christian Ricketts, Dallin Snyder, Chase Clement, and Jeff Rowley all getting bids.
Osterstock, Spence, and Feeny all will be running in the 1,500m. Osterstock is ranked 11th in the west with a time of 3:39.79, Spence comes in at 41st with a time of 3:43.57, and Feeny is ranked 45th with a time of 3:43.81.
Osterstock will also be running in the 5,000m along with Aidan Reed. Osterstock is ranked 19th in the event with a time of 13:42.32 and Reed comes in at 37th with a time of 13:50.19.
Reed will also be running in the 10,000m with fellow Thunderbird Christian Ricketts. Ricketts has the 14th fastest time in the event, having run a 28:40.62 earlier in the season. Reed is ranked 21st with a time of 28:44.68.
Dallin Snyder will be headed to College Station to compete in the high jump. Snyder is ranked 44th in the west with a jump of 6' 10.75".
Chase Clement and Jeff Rowley will both be competing in the javelin throw after they both set season-high marks at the Big Sky Championship. Clement will come in ranked 34th with a throw of 213' 1" and Rowley will come in ranked 41st with a throw of 206' 0".
West Preliminary Round Information
Competition for Southern Utah's individuals will begin on Wednesday May 26 as Clement and Rowley will compete for a spot in the National Championship in the men's javelin throw at 12:30 p.m. Mountain time.
Feeny, Osterstock, and Spence will run the first round of the 1,500m at 5:30 p.m. They will need to earn one of the top 24 times to move on to the semifinal round on Friday.
Reed and Ricketts will also run the 10,000m on Wednesday at 8:10 p.m. with the top 12 times advancing on to the National Championship in Eugene.
On Thursday May 27, McAllister will take her turn in the javelin throw at 12:30 p.m.
Pray will also compete in the first round of the women's 1,500m at 5:30 p.m. Mountain time. She will also need to finish in the top 24 on that event to move on to the semifinal round which would take place on Saturday.
On Friday May 28, Dallin Snyder will open competition in the high jump at 12:00 p.m., followed by Reed and Osterstock in the 5,000m at 7:30 p.m.
Pray will close out the competition on Saturday May 29 at 7:30 p.m. in the women's edition of the 5,000m.
