Soccer Welcomes Pacific Looking to Get Back on Track

CEDAR CITY, Utah - After dropping two tightly contested matches in a row, the Southern Utah University soccer team looks to get back in the win column as they host Pacific Sunday at Thunderbird Soccer Field.

ABOUT PACIFIC (4-1-1)  

The Tigers have won two of their last three, with their only loss of the season coming in a 1-0 double-overtime thriller to Boise State. They are led by Junior goalkeeper and WCC Defensive Player of the Week Breanna Crump who has secured two clean-sheet victories in their last two matchups against Fresno State and Cal Baptist.

Notes and Quotes

Last time on the pitch: The Thunderbirds took the pitch on September 3rd as they hosted the San Jose State Spartans in their 3rd home game of this five-game stretch. The Spartans came out strong, scoring in the eighth minute and the 74th minute off a T-Bird own goal. SUU clawed their way back into the game in the 86th minute when Ellen Lunderberg fired a set-piece to Ellie Vasey, who finished a header into the back of the net. The T-Birds continued to fight hard and apply pressure but couldn't find the equalizer. 

Edwards On his team's performance against SJSU 

"We competed like crazy today. We started off slow which is my fault, so we will get that corrected. But we worked hard, we competed and we're fun to watch. Would I like our results to be better? Of course. But I like where we are today compared to two weeks ago and compared to yesterday."

-The matchup Sunday will be SUU Soccer's first-ever matchup with Pacific. 

Kate Schirmer scored her 9th career goal against UC San Diego putting her eighth all-time in SUU goals.  

-  SUU took down Hope International 1-0 in the opening game of the season. Victoria Caucci scored the game-winning goal in the 49th minute off an assist from Evi Anderson
