COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – The Southern Utah University men's golf team wrapped up its first tournament of the year Sunday when it completed the final round of the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational at Eisenhower Golf Course.
The Thunderbirds finished 21st in the team standings with a 72-over-par 936. Tyler Jones led SUU for the tournament by shooting a nine-over-par 225. His efforts were good for 66th place in the tournament after shooting his best round of the tournament Sunday with a two-over-par 74.
Ryker Smith also played his best 18 holes Sunday as he finished five-over-par with a 77. Leo Torres finished just one stroke better than Smith for the entire tournament and finished 98th in the individual standings. Atthasit (Anfield) Srichun and Seth Winterton rounded out Southern Utah's team scores finishing in 101st and 102nd, respectively.
UC Davis claimed the team victory by shooting 33 under par through three days of competition. Nevada and Denver rounded out the top three. UC Davis' Thomas Hutchison was the individual champion and finished the invitational 15 strokes under par.
The T-Birds were represented well in the individual portion of the invitational as Jaxon Long recorded a top-10 finish. The Junior scored an even 72 on day three of the competition to finish four over for the tournament. His efforts landed him in eighth place. Rashon Williams (34th), Napat (Pun) Vorrasanpisut (37th) and Jaden Milne (39th) also competed for SUU as individuals.
Southern Utah will return to Colorado at the end of September when they compete in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado. The tournament will run two days beginning on Monday, September 27.
