CEDAR CITY, Utah– The Southern Utah University track and field programs will get their 2022 seasons started this weekend as they travel to Idaho to compete in the Idaho State Snake River Open. 

The meet will run from Friday, January 14 to Saturday, January 15 at Holt Arena in Pocatello, Idaho.

2021 Recap

SUU's 2021 campaign concluded with the women's team finishing in sixth place in the Big Sky Championships, while the men's team finished in seventh. 

Former Thunderbird Sinclair Winston led the way at the Big Sky Championships claiming two of the six all-conference nods for SUU. Sinclair blazed her way to two third-place finishes in the 100-Meter and the 200-Meter races. 

2021 women's Cross Country All-American Alison Pray also raced to a top finish at the Big Sky Championships last season. Pray finished in second place in the 1500 Meters with a time of 4:22.00. 

Dallin Snyder earned a strong second-place finish in the high jump with a 6'10.75". This jump tied the third-highest in school history. 

In The Rankings

The Big Sky Conference released the results of their 2022 Preseason Coaches' Polls earlier this month, and the Southern Utah women's track and field team has been predicted as the seventh-best team in the conference, while the men were picked eighth. 

Northern Arizona's men and women's teams topped the 2022 Indoor Track and Field Coaches poll for the second year in a row. 

Athletes To Watch

Elizabeth White- Jumps 

During the 2021 season, Elizabeth White captured the women's long jump title when she soared through the air with a 19'3.50" effort at the Big Sky Track and Field Championships. White will look to improve on this mark tomorrow in Pocatello. 

Max Morley- Sprints: 400 Meters

Last year Max Morley picked up a fifth-place finish during the Big Sky Championships with a time of 47.63. Morley also started the year with a winning race at the UNLV Spring Invitational.
