OREM, Utah. - The Southern Utah women's soccer team took a 5-0 loss against intrastate foe Utah Valley this evening in Orem, Utah. SUU's record moved to 9-5-2 overall and 4-4-2 in the Western Athletic Conference.
The Thunderbirds struggled to begin the match as Utah Valley closed out the first half with a 3-0 advantage. The Wolverines outshot SUU, 20-3, with Faith Webber leading the way with a pair of goals for UVU. For SUU, Megan Short accumulated six saves in the half. Sophomore midfielder Alison Keller, freshman forward Whitney Wangsgard and freshman forward Sammie Sofonia each put a shot up against Utah Valley in the first frame. The Wolverines then locked down the second stanza with two more goals as they outshot SUU, 8-0.
Short managed to come up with several quality saves during the match, tallying seven total during the competition. That moved her season save tally to 88. That's just shy of Short's personal-best 94 saves a year ago, which ties for fifth all time in SUU history. Thus far in Short's two-season career with SUU, she has 182 saves in net. That ranks her fifth all time in school history.

The Thunderbirds close out the 2022 regular season on the road as the 'Birds travel to Seattle, Wash., to compete against Seattle on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 2 p.m. MT. With an SUU win and a Grand Canyon loss this weekend, Southern Utah will earn a spot in the Western Athletic Conference postseason tournament.
