BOULDER, Colo. - Mitchell Abbott carded an exceptional two-under-par 68 through the first 18 holes at the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational; and, playing in difficult conditions was at even par through eight holes in the afternoon round, when eventually competition was fully suspended due to weather conditions. Abbott's performance placed him in a tie for seventh place overall.
Abbott's score of 68 in Round One was the best 18-hole score of his collegiate career, as he parred 12 holes and tallied four birdies in the round. He recorded six pars and one birdie through eight holes in the second round prior to play being suspended, and he will seek to continue his strong play tomorrow and compete for the individual championship.Â
Jaxon Long finished second in the SUU lineup for the day, turning in a season-best 71 (+1) for the first round. Long tallied 11 pars and three birdies over the first 18 holes of play. Long was at three-over-par through eight holes in the second round before competition was suspended, and he currently sits in a tie for 47th overall.
Atthasit (Anfield) Srichun and Leo Torres were tied for third in the SUU lineup, each shooting a 77 (+7) in the first round and sitting at five-over-par in the second round. Srichun was through nine holes in Round Two and Torres was through 10.
Seth Winterton finished fifth for Southern Utah, shooting a 77 (+7) in the first round and finishing at eight-over-par through 10 holes in the second round.
As a team, the Thunderbirds are in the 16th place on the leaderboard after ending the day at 26-over-par.
Tournament play will resume tomorrow morning with a shotgun start set for 7:30 a.m.. Golfers will complete the second round and continue directly into the third round of play, as tournament play will finish up tomorrow afternoon. Live stats will once again be available on GolfStat.com.
