ENGLEWOOD, Colo. - After a strong performance at the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational, competing against some of the top cross country programs in the nation and taking 31st overall in a field of 209 runners, Southern Utah University runner Santiago Gaitan has been named the Western Athletic Conference men's cross country athlete of the week.

Gaitan has had an exceptional start to the 2022 season, finishing 31st this past weekend after recording a blazing time of 23:59.7. Prior to the Notre Dame Joe Piane Invitational, Gaitan helped lead Southern Utah to a second place finish at the UC Riverside Invitational, taking 20th place overall after finishing in an impressive time of 24:15.5.

The Thunderbirds will be back in action this weekend, as they are set to host the SUU Color Country Invitational Saturday morning at 10 AM MT.
