ST. GEORGE, Utah - The Southern Utah University men's golf team wrapped up day one of the Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational with Tyler Jones leading the way on a 72-even-par. As a team, Southern Utah enters day two of the three-day tournament in 12th place.
THUNDERBIRD SCORES
Jones led all SUU golfers by finishing the day tied for 18th place after shooting par. Atthasit (Anfield) Srichun followed Jones in 54th with a four-over-par 76. Ryker Smith finished at five over par with Seth Winterton just behind at seven over par.
Playing as individuals not counting toward SUU's team score, Leo Torres was the top finisher in 38th at two over par. Jaden Milne shot seven over par just ahead of teammate Napat (Pun) Vorrasanpisut at eight over par. Jaxon Long (+9) and Donovan Barnes (+12) rounded out the Thunderbird competitors.Â
THE FIELD
Sacramento State's Ethan Davidson checks in as the top golfer through 18 holes after shooting seven under par with an eagle and five birdies. Dustin Hasely of Oral Roberts shot six under par to finish in second place among all golfers. Halsey shot an eagle of his own to go with a leading seven birdies.
Nate Deziel tied Hasely with a six under par score to finish as the top individual scorer. The North Dakota State product shot two eagles, tying three others for the most on the day. Utah State's John Cook finished the day fifth overall at four under par, good for second among individual competitors. Five birdies and an eagle put Cook's final score on the day at 68.
TEAM SCORES
Middle Tennessee State finishes the day in first place with a 276 team score, good for 12 under par. Sacramento State comes in second at five under par for a 283 team score. Oral Roberts and Southern Illinois rounded out the top three, tied at 284 and four under par.Â
The Pizza Hut-Pat Hicks Thunderbird Invitational continues play tomorrow with an approximate 9:30 a.m. MST tee time. Live stats will be available at golfstat.com
