SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan and Tanyatorn (Excel) Thalangkarn both shot under par Tuesday afternoon to lead the Southern Utah University women's golf team at the Big Sky Conference Championship.
The SUU duo both recorded identical one-under-par 71's on the day to help the Thunderbirds improve their team score significantly from round one. Yongyuan sits in sixth place overall after sinking three birdies and making par 13 times Tuesday. Thalangkarn joins her in the top-10 at 10th place on the individual leaderboard.
As a team, Southern Utah remained in eighth place after the second round despite improving its output by nine strokes from day one to day two. The T-Birds lead Portland State, Northern Colorado and Montana heading into the final day of competition.
Tori Thomas had a solid day two outing for SUU, dropping four strokes off her day one performance with a 77. Overall, she sits at 14 over par in 46th place. Also inside the top-50 is Ellie Hair who has shot 16 over par thus far.
Northern Arizona leads the team standings by 15 strokes at one under par for the championship. Sacramento State, Weber State and Idaho have all carded scores of 14 over par for a three-way tie for second. NAU's Ekaterina Malakhova leads the individual standings at seven under par.
Anais Guibal rounds out SUU's lineup in 51st place on an 18-over-par 162.
