OREM, Utah - The Southern Utah University cross country teams began the 2022 season at the UVU Invitational Thursday afternoon, as the women's team started off the year by taking third place in the event, with the men's team taking fifth.
Competing with five freshmen and one sophomore, the women's team had a notably strong start to the 2022 season. The T-Birds had three runners finish in consecutive order, as Freshman Addie Dalton had a phenomenal start to her collegiate career, recording a time of 20:43.2 to lead the SUU women's team and secure a 26th-place finish. Sophomore Gentry Pierce finished right behind Dalton, taking 27th place with a time of 20:46.5. Freshman Katy Kelly took the 28th spot on the final leaderboard, finishing with a time of 20:48.8
Freshman Sammi Stewart took 31st place, finishing with a time of 21:01.3, and fellow freshman runner Madison Patrick rounded out the top-five for the Thunderbirds, recording a time of 22:20.8.
The men's lineup also consisted of almost entirely underclassmen, competing with three freshmen, two sophomores, and one junior.
Nethaneel Taylor led the way for Southern Utah, taking 18th place overall with an impressive time of 16:40.7. Freshman Lanse Larsen followed Taylor, securing 25th-place with a time of 17:03.8.
Clayton Adams and Bowen Martin finished in 33rd and 34th place, respectively. Adams compiled a time of 17:26.7, and Martin finished with a time of 17:31.6. AJ Rowland closed out the race for SUU, taking 45th place by recording a final time of 18:03.6.

The Thunderbirds will return to action on September 17, when they will travel to California to compete in the UC Riverside Invitational.
