COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Southern Utah University men's golf team closed out play at the 2022 Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational on Sunday, shooting a combined 315 to finish in 24th place at the tournament.
Mitchell Abbot led the way for SUU on day three, turning in his best performance of the weekend by carding a 75 (+3) for the round. Abbot finished second overall in the Thunderbird lineup, amassing a score of 233 over three rounds of play. His score also put him in a tie for 103rd overall.Â
Three Thunderbirds tied for second in the lineup on the final day, with Leo Torres, Jaxon Long, and Rashon Williams each shooting 80 (+8) in the final round. Torres finished first overall for Southern Utah, and his three-day combined score of 231 placed him in a tie for 96th on the overall leaderboard. Long finished in sole possession of the 110th spot on the leaderboard, and Williams finished in a tie for 116th. Donovan Barnes completed the SUU lineup on Sunday, shooting an 81 in the final round and finishing 119th overall.
Colorado State ran away with the team victory, shooting a combined 834 for the tournament to claim the win by 25 strokes.
In the individual portion of the event, Seth Winterton had an impressive final day, carding an even par round of 72. Winterton secured a tie for 30th place overall.Â

The Thunderbirds will return to Colorado at the start of October, as they are scheduled to participate in the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational hosted by the University of Colorado. The tournament is scheduled to take place October 3-4.Â
