COEUR D'ALENE, Idaho - Chanikan (Pluem) Yongyuan shot a one-over-par 72 on Monday, leading the way for the Southern Utah University women's golf team while moving up on the leaderboard into a tie for 29th place. Yongyuan managed to record two birdies and 13 pars, as she was able to par seven straight holes to end her round.
As a team, the Thunderbirds improved their combined score by seven strokes from round one, shooting a 299 for the day. Southern Utah's performance moved them up one position on the leaderboard, and they sit in 18th place entering the final round tomorrow.
Freshman Tsara Ralamboarison had the best round of her young career, shooting an impressive 73 (+2) for the day. Ralamboarison parred 12 holes and chipped in two birdies throughout the round. She will head into the final round tied for 58th place.
Tanyatorn (Excel) Thalangkarn finished at a tie for third in the Southern Utah lineup, turning in a score of 77 (+6) for the day. Thalangkarn led SUU with three birdies, while also recording 10 pars, as she finished the day achieving a tie for 65th on the leaderboard. Anais Guibal also finished the day with a score of 77 after parring 11 holes and earning one birdie. Guibal is currently in a tie for 86th place entering tomorrow's round.
Ellie Hair closed out the Thunderbird lineup, improving her first round score by five strokes today. She managed to par eight holes throughout the day, finishing in 97th place.
Similar to their first tournament of the season, the Thunderbirds will seek to have their best round of the tournament on the final day of play and continue to rise on the team leaderboard.
The third and final round of the tournament will take place tomorrow morning, with a shotgun start set for 9 a.m. MT. Live scoring will be available on Golfstat.com, and a recap of the day's events will be posted to SUUTBirds.com.
