Southern Utah (5-0, 0-0) will seek to extend the longest winning streak in program history; but, it will be a daunting task, as they face a loaded Cal State Fullerton team that has also had an exceptional start to the season.
The Titans (2-1-2, 0-0) have faced a challenging schedule to start the season, securing ties against Texas Tech and New Mexico State, while picking up wins over UC Irvine and the University of Utah.
CSUF has relied heavily on their midfielders and backline, as they have only allowed five goals in five matches thus far. Graduate Student Emilia Owen leads the team in goals (3) as a defender; she has not only been a consistent presence on defense, but has also had a strong impact offensively.Â
Senior midfielder Maddie Kline has had a very strong season thus far, recording one goal and a team-leading three assists this season. Kline has also done an excellent job of controlling the midfield, providing strong leadership for the Titans.Â
As good as the back-line and midfield have been for the Titans, their strikers have struggled to begin the season, amassing only a single goal from their group of forwards. They will now face a strong Southern Utah defense and goalkeeper Megan Short, who has only allowed one goal this season.
SUU has had a plethora of players provide significant contributions throughout the season, and they will look to continue their dominant play on the back-line and create offensive opportunities for their lethal group of forwards.Â
Southern Utah's offensive attack still ranks first in the nation in goals per game (5), and they will look to have a strong showing against a formidable back-line on Sunday.
The Thunderbirds' midfield will need to step up and potentially have their best showing of the season yet if Southern Utah hopes to control the tempo of the game and come out with their sixth consecutive victory to remain undefeated.
