CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University women's volleyball team competed against UT Arlington, falling in five hard fought sets. The Thunderbirds move to 5-14 overall and 1-8 in Western Athletic Conference play, while the Mavericks improve to 16-6 on the season and 5-4 in WAC play.

MATCH RECAP
The first set was an absolute battle, with the two squads finding themselves tied at 25-25. The Thunderbirds came up clutch, with Amaya Tobias delivering the block to clinch the set 27-25.
UT Arlington bounced back, taking a 19-12 advantage in set two. Despite three kills each from Charlotte Wilson and Andrea Spasojevic, the Mavericks took the set 25-15.
Southern Utah came out hot in the third set, jumping out to a 16-9 lead midway through the period. Spasojevic poured in four kills to push the Thunderbirds in front 24-15. The Mavericks attempted a late comeback, getting within four (24-20). Wilson added the final kill for the Thunderbirds as they would take set three 25-20.
Set four was a close contest. The two teams matched each other point for point as the score was 22-22 near the end of the period. UT Arlington was able to break the stalemate, using a 3-0 burst to win the set 25-22.
The Thunderbirds took a 7-6 lead to begin the final set. The Mavericks fought back to take an 11-9 advantage. SUU was able to stay within striking distance, 14-13, towards the end of the set. UT Arlington would go on to narrowly take the set 15-13 and the match 3-2.

Southern Utah will host Stephen F. Austin on Saturday, Oct 21. The match is scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m. MT.
