CEDAR CITY, Utah – SUU soccer's Mayu Yamamoto has been name to the 2023 All-WAC Second Team. 

On October 27 the Western Athletic Conference announced the full postseason awards for the 2023 Women's Soccer season. With Yamamoto earning second team All-Conference honors, and Jenna Grider also receiving votes. 

It is the first time in five years that an SUU soccer player has earned an All-Conference team award. 

Logging the fourth most minutes on the team, Yamamoto racked up 25 shots on goal to go along with two goals and one assist on the year. 

"Mayu is an exciting player and an even better teammate. When you see her on the ball it makes people watching the game stand up and appreciate what is about to happen." Said Head Coach Kai Edwards. 

Mayu's two goals on the season came in the most important games, with the post-season tournament on the line, Yamamoto scored in the final two home games for SUU and helped secure two wins that propelled the Thunderbirds into the sixth and final playoff spot. 

"Mayu is a joy to coach and be around every day and is more than deserving of this recognition from the WAC as a top player in the league. Mayu would be the first to thank her teammates as she is a very humble worker, and we are incredibly proud of her and her accomplishments." Said Edwards.

The SUU soccer team is traveling to Cal Baptist University, the host site of the 2023 WAC Tournament, where they will take on Seattle U in the first round of the tournament on Sunday, October 29 at 8 p.m. MT.
