SUU Track and Field Host Red & Black Inter-Squad Meet

CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Southern Utah's men's and women's track teams came together to host a red and black inter-squad meet. The meet was held at home, on SUU's own track and field! A couple of Utah Tech track athletes were able to come up and participate in the scrimmage as well. While no times or measurements were official, it was a good opportunity for the community to watch the Thunderbirds track and field student-athletes in action.

Unfortunately, poor weather caused the meet to be delayed for some time, and then ultimately cut short. But the team was able to compete in most of their events.

The day started out with throws. Men's and women's shotput, as well as men's and women's javelin from 12-3, following that, was men's and women's hammer throw and discus.

After a couple lightning delays the teams were able to get back out on the track and start their jumping events. Both the men and the women competed in high jump and long jump.

And finally, the running events got started around 6:30pm. Starting out with the women's 100m hurdles, followed by men's and women's 100m sprint. There were two heats of the men's and women's 800m, and 300m. As well as one heat of the women's 300m hurdles.

An elimination mile was the final race to be run due to strong wind and more lightning.

The men's and women's track and field teams will be competing in the Outdoor WAC Championships on May 11 and 12th in Nacogdoches, Texas. A full preview and details will be available on our website.
