Southern Utah Adds Becerra from California Baptist

CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University Softball and Coach Don Don Williams are excited to announce the addition of infielder Karmyna Becerra. Becerra will come to the Thunderbirds with WAC experience having played her freshman season at California Baptist.


COACH DON DON WILLIAMS SAID

"Karmyna is an experienced WAC player that knows what it takes to get to the postseason. Her defense is second to none and we will be looking for her to elevate everyone around her."


During the 2023 season, Becerra made an impact for the Lancers, appearing in 49 games and starting in 37 of them. Her contributions on the field were invaluable, as she showcased her offensive and defensive abilities. Becerra's performance at the plate was impressive, slugging .357 and boasting an on-base percentage of .266. She showed flashes of power with 23 hits, including seven doubles, two triples, and two home runs. Additionally, she drove in 21 runs, highlighting her ability to deliver in clutch situations.

Prior to her collegiate career, Becerra excelled at Central Union High School. Her exceptional skills and contributions to her high school team earned her a spot on the All-Imperial Valley League First Team, a testament to her dedication and talent. Becerra's offensive prowess was further recognized as she received the Slugger of the Year award, solidifying her reputation as a standout player.

Karmyna Becerra's arrival at Southern Utah University adds depth and talent to a growing softball roster. Thunderbird fans can anticipate an exhilarating season ahead as Becerra showcases her skills on the field and contributes to the team's pursuit of excellence.
