Women's Golf Hires New Head Coach

CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University and Director of Golf Richard Church, are excited to announce the hiring of Tara Oglesby to be just the second head coach of the women's golf team in program history.  

"I am honored and humbled to be trusted by President Benson, Doug Knuth and Richard Church to be the next head women's golf coach at SUU. My goal is to create a program that is focused on providing a wonderful experience for our student-athletes, on the course, in the classroom, and on campus. I am grateful for the opportunity to be a Thunderbird." Said Oglesby.

"Tara is going to be a wonderful addition to our staff. She has been around golf for a long time, played under some great coaches, and had a lot of success in her career playing golf as well. We are excited to have her on board and look forward to the success she will bring in this new chapter of her golf career." 

Oglesby has been around golf for almost her whole life from working as a pro shop assistant throughout high school to managing the Utah PGA Junior Program she has a wealth of experience and knowledge of the game. 

In high school, she won the Utah State 5A individual Championship and was a four-time UHSAA Region champion. After high school, she had a decorated career playing golf for the University of Montana. 

Oglesby earned Big Sky Conference Freshman of the Year in 2011 and is tied for the lowest stroke average in school history. Tara won three times while at Montana, and earned Big Sky Player of the Week honors four different times. She was named to the All-Conference team in 2013, 2014 and 2015 and is tied for the lowest round in program history. 

Her amateur career saw a lot of success as well. Multi-time semifinalist at Utah Women's Amateur Championship, and made the cut to advance to match play in Utah Women's Amateur Championship eight times (2010-2017, 2019).

Oglesby has spent the last seven years teaching at an elementary school in the Weber and Davis County school districts, as well as helping coach her high school alma mater golf team.
