CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah University Men's and Women's Cross Country teams will take a trip up to Orem this Friday, September 1st to participate in the UVU Invitational.

"The Utah Valley meet provides our freshmen an opportunity to race.  Resting our top athletes and allowing them to train has always been beneficial for us as we move into the conference, regional and national championships later on in the season.  It also gives a newcomer the opportunity to make the conference team."

UVU Invitational

The Invitational will take place at Scera Park, located less than a mile from the UVU campus.

The competition will be fierce, featuring many foes old and new for the Thunderbirds including host school UVU who finished 26th in the NCAA Championships in 2022 and the University of Utah who finished 12th.

Rounding out the competition is former Big Sky opponent Idaho State, Utah Tech, Weber State and Salt Lake Community College.

Eleven freshmen will be represented in the invitational this year, including Logan Peel, Lanse Larsen and Jacob Peterson for the Men and Daisy Baker and Ellary Battle for the Women.  This competition will give these freshmen their first crack at intercollegiate athletics and give them a chance to build their skills early in the season.

The competition is set to begin at 9:00 AM MST, starting with the Men's 5K followed by the Women's 5K
