CEDAR CITY, Utah – The Southern Utah University soccer team will play their ninth match of the season this week, this time hosting the 1-7 Idaho State University. With SUU's record at 0-4-4, they are still in pursuit of their first win.
The game will take place on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 4 p.m. on the Thunderbird Soccer Field and can be streamed on ESPN+.
Alison Keller, Kiki Stewart and Ashley Rivera will all be recognized at the game as the team celebrates their senior night.
Keller has played at SUU since the fall of 2021. So far, she has appeared in 49 total games and has not missed a match since she became a Thunderbird.
Stewart came to SUU after playing three seasons at Arizona State University. She has played in every game since arriving, even toughing out the full 90 minutes against Northern Arizona University.
Though she has not been a regular starter since 2021, Rivera has been consistent for the Thunderbirds, logging 1762 minutes through her career.
Idaho State
The Bengals are currently sitting at 1-7 and are coming off a 1-2 loss against Colorado State.
Opponents have outscored the Bengals 24-9 through their eight games played. Saydree Bell leads the team in goals with three while contributing one assist. The Bengals' goalkeeper duties have been split between three players and they have a collective .662 save percentage.
The Thunderbirds
SUU is still looking to get in the win column this season and will need to rely on the play of Sammie Sofonia who leads the team in goals with three, and Whitney Gardner who has four assists on the year.
Quotes from Coach Edwards
"We look forward to honoring our three seniors who have given so much to this program over the years. All three came to SUU in different ways, but each has made an incredible impact. Idaho State is a well coached team and can score in a variety of ways, we will need to be on top of our game and do our best to honor these seniors with a win."
