Box Score CEDAR CITY, Utah -- Southern Utah Women's Soccer team earns a point at home against Northern Arizona for the first time since 2015 with a 1-1 tie.
Quotes from Kai Edwards
"A tie on the second game of the week versus the reigning Big Sky Champs is a great accomplishment. A hard game against Fullerton could have had our team wanting to roll over and give a game up, but we battled and earned a point. A lot of credit to our backs and the subs that came in and brought a lot of energy. We are close to getting that second goal, but if our issue is scoring first and then giving up goals, that is much better than being down goals. We are playing a much-improved schedule this year and navigating it really well."
Thunderbirds scored first for the fourth game in a row, taking a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute on Whitney Gardner's first goal of the season, set up by Mayu Yamamoto who earned her first assist of the season.
The celebration wouldn't last long, as just five minutes later Josie Novak would net the equalizer for NAU.
Julia Ortega was impressive in goal once again with eight saves on the afternoon. The backline consisting of Aubrey Murray, Kiki Stewart and Laney Kimble were phenomenal all afternoon, each playing all 90 minutes and surviving a persistent attack from a good NAU team.
The T-birds will be back in action Sept 6 when they travel to Pacific University.
