CEDAR CITY, Utah - After a multitude of record-breaking performances last weekend, the Southern Utah University men's and women's track and field teams are back in action this Friday, Jan. 19 at the NAU Lumberjack Team Challenge.

Last Time Out
From Thursday, Jan. 11 to Saturday, Jan. 13, both teams traveled up north to participate in the BYU Cougar Invitational. Â
For the women's team, The Thunderbirds were led by freshman Makenna Skoczylas and junior Ariana Baker in the pole vault, who both cleared 12' 4.5", breaking the former school record of 12'4". Ariana followed up her performance with a 12'8.25", giving her sole possession of the school record.
Southern Utah also had several stellar performances from their running athletes, including a 1-mile time of 5:05.88 from Madison DeBos, putting her in fifth overall in the event. In the 60m hurdles, Savannah Nielson secured first place with a time of 8.62 seconds. Shante Myrie impressed in the 60m dash, placing second with a time of 7.65 seconds.
Myrie, Jayden Lightford, Seadra Hamilton, and Kimberly Winward powered their way to a fifth-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a time of 3:57.53.
On the men's side, the T-Birds were led in the 400m dash by sophomore Nick Pembroke, who finished in third with a time of 49.64 seconds. Kadan Allen and Nathan Carlin also finished in the top 10, securing sixth and seventh place with times of 50.85 and 50.93 seconds respectively. Santiago Gaitan finished in fourth place in the 3000m with a time of 8:07.75.
Cedar English and Easton Smith fueled the way for the 'Birds in the long jump, finishing first and second with distances of 23'10.25" and 22'10.5" respectively.
Noah Bringhurst, Dylan Gibson, Pembroke, and Jace Rodgers soared to a second-place finish in the 4x400 relay with a 3:17.75 time.
Meet Info
The meet will take place on the campus of Northern Arizona University in the NAU J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome. Â
Along with host school Northern Arizona, the field will feature plenty of familiar foes for the Thunderbirds, including conference rivals Utah Tech and Grand Canyon. UTSA, UNLV, UC Riverside, and Arizona Christian will round out the competition.
Competition will begin at 2 p.m. MT with the pole vault and jumps and wrap up at 4 p.m. MT with running events.
